One of our country’s longest-running outdoor plays, The Lost Colony tells the story of one of the most enduring mysteries in American history—the disappearance of the Roanoke Colony, an English settlement founded in 1585 by Sir Walter Raleigh. For over eighty years, the play has fascinated visitors and the company has been home to many well-known actors.
Launched in 1998, the design of the previous website was dated and no longer reflected the quality of the production or the importance of the story of the Roanoke Island settlement. The website also offered limited functionality and was difficult for staff to manage.
The Roanoke Island Historical Association staff needed a better way to showcase performances and provide visitors with options when planning trips and selecting tickets.
The organization also wanted to inform and educate visitors about the story and give historical context of the first attempt at founding a permanent English settlement in North America, the Roanoke Colony, also known as the Lost Colony.
DatAchieve Digital provided the Roanoke Island Historical Association with a new website that integrates their existing eTix system with a customized API that allows visitors to quickly search and filter performances, an interactive timeline that places the story of the Roanoke Colony in historical context, and prominent news posts and featured show information on the Home page. The design also conveys the richness of the play and the unique experience of the outdoor setting using visuals that include the header animation shown below. Visit The Lost Colony Website »
